Revenue seize 48,000 cigarettes in Cavan and Dublin

Almost 50,000 counterfeit cigarettes have been seized in the past week.

It follows searches in Cavan and Dublin.

Following the search of a home in Cavan yesterday evening, Revenue officers seized just over 41,000 unstamped cigarettes.

The cigarettes branded NZ, West, and Pall Mall have a retail value of €26,000.

The detection was made with the help of Revenue detector dog Bill.

Meanwhile, Revenue officers at Dublin Port seized cigarettes and alcohol worth almost €10,000 during a routine search last Friday of a vehicle which came from Romania via Holyhead.

An additional 165 litres of alcohol comprising of vodka, beer and wine was also seized from the vehicle.
